HISTORY OF THE INTERNATIONAL THESPIAN SOCIETY
High school students in West Virginia founded the International Thespian Society in 1929. It was created to provide legitimacy and support for international high school theatre programs. Based in Cincinnati, Ohio, the Society now has an active high school membership of well over 5,000. Lake Braddock joined this prestigious society in 1991 and has participated annually in the State Thespian Festival and the International Festival.
CRITERIA
Members must have at some point enrolled in Theatre II, III, or IV and have received enough points for a letter (30). Seniors need only obtain 20 points.
COMPETITIONS
ITS offers an opportunity for outstanding students to perform for the accolades of their peers at the International Festival in Lincoln, Nebraska. The categories of Individual Events are:
Monologue

Duet Acting

Solo and Duet Musical Theatre

Solo and Duet Pantomime

Costume Design
|
Scene Design
|
All Individual Events have a maximum time limit of five minutes each, except for technical categories which are given ten minutes. At the International Festival level, a student must receive a Superior or First through Third rating at the State Festival in order to compete. Guidelines for Individual Events are on file with the ITS officers. To obtain a copy and application form see them at least two months before the state festival.
